8 Innovate Ways to Get Over the Hump

8 Innovate Ways to Get Over the Hump

blank screenEarlier this week I sat down at my computer, ready and eager to delve deep into the Sensual Living world and I was met with an aggressive blank screen. Blink, blink, blink, nothing for hours. The persistent cursor taunted me with the absence of inspiration; I found myself in sludgy dissatisfaction and potent irritation for not using my time effectively. Distraction, unrealistic expectations and mild burn out are front and center in many of our lives. I am like many of you; I have no time to waste and yet, I can easily waste time by looking at awkward family photos and endless Facebook feeds. It’s the crux of our times. How do we get over the creative/ emotional/ spiritual/ procrastination hump?

How to Have a Peaceful Heart – Now more than ever.

Recently, I was having a conversation with a dear friend (and powerful healer woman) about the situation in Israel and Gaza, the prejudices we all hold and the true way to peace. Her words inspired me greatly and I encouraged her to write them down for all of us to share and re-share. Please read. We are all responsible for the love or hate we hold in our hearts. Love it all. It is the only way I know.

She asked to remain anonymous. Thank you JP.

west bank hands of world

I am sending this message in an attempt to address the prejudice and intolerance we too often find ourselves, drinking from the same river in which such currents flow. Armored with our own woundedness and fear, we set out to prove the offenders wrong, and ourselves right, arguing and debating our defense point. We silence their voices in order that ours will be heard, or in its extreme form, to punish the evildoers. In this mind-SET, we enter from the other side into the same river of pain and suffering from which the transgressions arose. Albert Einstein said, “we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”.

Full Moon August 2014: Super Moon

Moon_thirst_rumiThe full moon is August 10, 2014 at 2P.M. EDT and we are in for a big, juicy super moon. It will be the biggest moon of the year. A super moon means that the moon will be closest to the earth’s orbit making it appear bigger and brighter than other full moons. The super moons are also the most super charged. The best time to view it is just after sunset when the moon is rising out of the horizon.

Full Sturgeon Moon

alabama_sturgeon

Some Native American tribes called this month’s Moon the Sturgeon Moon because they knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this full Moon. Around the Great lakes, in Native American tradition, Sturgeons were considered the royalty of fishes (also prized by Europeans for their precious caviar). Working with Sturgeon medicine can teach you about determination, perseverance, depth, knowledge, generosity, strength, and sexuality. Is there a big fish you are trying to catch? Is there an area of your life that can benefit from Sturgeon medicine and the power of the moon? This is a good time to cast your net into the great big sea of opportunity and reap the rewards of your patience and determination.

Easy as Gluten-Free Service Berry Pie

I love Summer! One of my all-time favorite things to do in the summer is casually stroll around my neighborhood and feast on the abundant fruit trees and bushes. Toronto is full of them. Every morning Bodhi and I go on our morning walk and stop off at a huge Mulberry tree in the park. It’s a great and healthy way to start the day.

photo 2My parents have a gigantic Service berry bush in their backyard. Every year, I harvest it to make gluten-free pie or jam or simply eat until I simply cannot eat any more (one hour is usually my max). Service berries are also called Saskatoon berries. They are native to Canada and simply delicious. They are a deep purple or dark blue berry that is the size of a large blueberry. Recent research indicates that Saskatoon berries have higher levels of antioxidants compared to other more common berries such as wild blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. The most perfect Service berry is sweet and juicy with a small center seed that tastes like almond marzipan. It’s sublimely delicious.

Getting Rid of Mold the Natural, Aromatic Way.

mold-sporesRio gave me so much. I am full and thriving from the experience of living close to the ocean, surrounded by verdant mountains, steeped in a country rich with cultural and spiritual tradition. I came home happy… and with a suitcase full of mold. It seems that Brazilian winter temperatures combined with ocean breezes and mountains behind me made for a perfect breeding ground for mold to flourish. I had no idea the extent of the invasion until my friend picked me up at the airport and had an allergy attack as soon as she hugged me. Sheesh, that was awkward.

House of Trees

The House of the Trees (1895)

Ethelwyn Wetherald (canadian)

OPE your doors and take me in,
Spirit of the wood,
Wash me clean of dust and din,
Clothe me in your mood.

Take me from the noisy light 5
To the sunless peace,
Where at mid day standeth Night
Signing Toil’s release.

All your dusky twilight stores
To my senses give; 10
Take me in and lock the doors,
Show me how to live.

Lift your leafy roof for me,
Part your yielding walls;
Let me wander lingeringly 15
Through your scented halls.

Lake sunset

Discover your forest. Discover yourself.

The Forest pathWell, I am back and slowly reconnecting with my life in Canada. It has been a wild transition to say the least. I miss my dear friends, oceanic Vidigal views and daily Acai though I am happy and excited to be back.

Aside from the huggable cops, heritage houses, and functionality of everything, what has tickled me most is the Ontario wilderness. I had the opportunity to go up to the St. Lawrence River near Kingston Ontario over the weekend to a small community music festival. It was pure inspiration. The Ontario forest energy has an innocent, maiden-like beauty. She quietly invites you in and offers a warm hug and a soft place to land. I love Canadian nature. The diversity and energetic frequency of these lands is fascinating.
