Of course my favorite place to start is with essential oils. In my book, Aromatherapy for Sensual Living, I talk about the medicinal value of essential oils. By simply incorporating them into your daily routine, you will find that you get sick less often and have the added benefit of being surrounded by potent and delightful aromatics. Essential oils are effective healers that I describe as the “anti-anti” meaning that they are all anti-biotic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, antispasmodic, anti-stress and more. Essential oils have a particular intelligence to do exactly what your body needs. This comes in handy during cold and flu season.

A Short History of Essential oils

by

Societies have been distilling plants for beauty, perfume, and medicine for more than 5,000 years. There is an undeniable energy, attraction and healing power in the aromatics of plants. Perfume is power and pure flirtation. I have often said that authentic distillations of essential oils are a way to hold, touch and play with the divine in our very own hands.

These libations have been used since the time of Christ and Cleopatra. They are ancient. Throughout history, sacred herbs and medicines were traded and exchanged along trade routes to create, distill and use in an aroma apothecary. There are documents of perfume production in ancient Egypt, Persia, China, India, and Japan. In fact, speciality pots have been found at 5,500-year-old Sumerian sites which are believed to have been used for primitive extraction of essential oils.

Aromatherapy: 7 essential oils to make you purr

Aromatherapy: 7 essential oils to make you purr

Essential oils have a powerful effect on the pleasure centers of the brain, and can (and should) be used to enhance erotic desire and bedroom play. This isn’t wishful thinking but an ancient healing modality grounded in science. Plants emit natural aphrodisiac pheromones to encourage pollinators to feast on their beauty. We get to use these pheromones (or plant perfume) in the form of essential oils to do the same thing. With a little bit of knowledge and some clever placement, you can have them eating out of the palm of your hand. In my twenty years of years, I have often employed essential oils to captivate the imagination of a potential suitor…and the results are too juicy to share.

Aromatherapy for Eye Health

Aromatherapy for Eye Health

Essential oils are incredibly powerful in supporting all body systems. In fact, you can use them in places where you wouldn’t expect, like in and around the eye. Are you surprised? The truth is, I have used aromatherapy to support eye health for many years with great success. When I was teaching Aromatherapy in Japan, I demonstrated how to use rose hydrosol; first in my mouth, then misted on my face and finally, in my eye. The reaction was one of shock and then explosive giggles.

Use with Awareness

Essential oils close to or in the eyes require careful instruction. They can be caustic and excruciating if used in the wrong way. If you have ever gotten essential oils in your eye, you will know what I am talking about; it’s burning (often curse-inducing) experience.

Rock that Stock: Flavor Filled Vitality in a Bowl

by

The other day, I posted this photo of a soup stock bubbling away on Instagram. I simply love the smell of them cooking  and the tremendous healing powers they impart. Stocks rock so much, that I was inspired to give you my super-star superfood stock recipe.

 Stocks_rock

There is an expression that a good stock will bring a dying man back to life. While that is a slight exaggeration, I have consistently seen their value in my personal and professional life. Even when I was a staunch vegan, I would regularly recommend bone broth stocks to my chronic (and even terminal) clients to restore their vitality. Stocks are easy to digest and are full of vital minerals and nutrients that are essential for healing.

Juicy in the Afternoon: Aromatic, Superfood, Enlightened Passionfruit Juice

by

For many, there is nothing more depressing than a Monday morning in January in the Northern hemisphere? From this vantage point, there are at least six, probably closer to eight more weeks of winter’s wrath. To be a Canadian, one needs to know how to survive with lightness in our hearts.

Eating tropical or raw food in the winter is not something I generally recommend for myself or for my clients. Cold causes constriction in the body and the last thing we need in the winter is more tightness… However, every now and then, we need to break the rules. We need to remember that even in the bleakness of winter, somewhere, life is growing and thriving. We can feast on that inspiration.
