At Sensual living, we love getting witchy (in the positive light kind-of-way, of course). As such, we are starting a moon series to learn how to use the energy of the full moon and get more in touch with the natural cycles of life. And what a full moon to start on! Tomorrow night is a super moon, meaning that it’s extra big and powerful- Heads up, you might be more emotional. By doing regular ceremony and ritual to honor the moon, you can create more of what you want in your life.

The full moon is a time of active magic that deals with endings and completions (New moons are a good time to start projects as they are about beginnings). As such, it is a great time to write intentions, clean crystals and do light-based spell work. Some of the ways I like to revere the full moon is to light a candle, create an offering with the moon cycle elements in mind and prayers for what I want to release or, I journal my thoughts and then release them into a sacred fire. The culmination of the moon can affect people in different ways. Many people find themselves being more accident-prone, more emotional or having difficulty sleeping. For women, it is common to start their menses at that time.

The Full Moon in Capricorn is 7/12 at 4:25 am PDT/7:25 am EDT. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the July full moon has 3 different names; Hay moon, Buck Moon and Thunder Moon.

How to use the energy of the July full moon:

Hay Moon

Hay is being gathered and stored for the winter.

We are at the half way point of the year. Looking back, are you satisfied with the seeds you have planted and the manifestation of your work. If not, what can you do now to ensure a fruitful bounty for the winter? Now is the time to make an action plan and commit to ensuring your bounty. Use hay in your full moon offering to set a clear intention as to how you want to move forward to manifest your true heart’s desire.

Thunder Moon

Thunder is rolling.

Full moon prayer Thunder is loud and commanding. With thunder, there is the deep knowing that very soon, lightening will crack. It could spell disaster or offer a glorious light show. It’s up to chance. How does thunder make you feel? Are you calm or anxious? Does the thunder excite you with the momentum to move forward or do you cower under the sheets, terrified that you will be swept up in the storm? Use this earth shaking energy of the full moon to charge your intentions and prayers, carry you through and get ‘er done. Everything is transforming and transformable right before your eyes. Use the magnitude of thunder for your benefit.

Buck Moon

Take charge.

A buck is a male deer. At this full moon, buck’s antlers are full and covered with fresh velvet. Antlers are heavy; as such bucks must hold their heads high to support the weight of their crown. The antlers are a form of protection when going to battle with other bucks or animals. How can you use what’s in/on your head to get more of what you want? Additionally, bucks are gentle, loving and sweetly curious. To use the energy of buck moon, ask yourself how you can navigate your world with gentleness and love. It’s a powerful teaching. Perhaps you can anoint your offering with deer velvet tincture by www.Surthrival.com. It’s a powerful adaptogen and one I use in my medicinal treasure trove.

Have a wonderful full moon. Next month, we will talk about ways to do ceremony to honour the moon and its sparkling power. Witchy magic never felt so good.

Sparkle on, sweet sensual lovers.

In the light of the super full moon,

~Elana

Ps. Don’t forget to howl.
