In many parts of the Northern hemisphere, snow is melting away and little sparks of life are coming to the surface. It’s an exciting time of regeneration and renewal.
All this week, I have been cleansing with Ayurvedic kitchari to gently release the sludge of winter and prepare my body and my mind for the upcoming season. March goes in like a lion out like a lamb, so they say. How can you use the energy of the March full moon? Is it time for you to let down your armor and allow the soft sweetness of life into your life? How can you soften your edges? What can you do to support yourself through this transition?
Tonight is the smallest full moon of the year. Don’t lose sight of its power just because of its size. This full moon imparts many gifts and tools.
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, March is called Full Worm Moon – As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins (I have been waking up to the sounds of birds outside my window. It fills me with joy and inspiration).
The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night.
These days, I feel like I am walking on the crust of crème Brule as the snow crackles under my feet. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.
Earthworms burrow deep into the earth to find nutrients and aerate the soil. This benefits the farmers, the birds and the plants. Do you need to go deep to find a new breath of life? How can you humble yourself to receive the gifts you deserve.
Crow medicine people are masters of illusion. When they are around, trust that something special is about to happen. Crow guides the magic of healing and the change in consciousness that will bring a new reality. It’s time to let go of old thinking and prepare yourself for the new way of seeing yourself and the world. Crow is also the guardian of ceremonial magic and healing. Crows encourage us to walk and talk our truth.
As the sap slowly starts to ooze out of the trees, think about how you can be sweeter, slower, sexier. Trees can teach us so much about how to harness our feminine yin. There is almost nothing finer than maple syrup. It is one of nature’s finest creations. Feast on the glory of the season with the flowing sweet sap from trees. Let it guide other juices to flow.
Enjoy this gorgeous moon, sweet sensual lovers. Stay present to watch the world unfold around you. Let it fill you with joy and inspiration. The flowers are just around the corner, and then the real magic begins.
In the holy light of the full moon,
