October Full Moon- Blood Moon/ Hunter Moon

blood-moonIt’s tonight! Can you feel it? The full moon is tonight and this one is super-charged, wild and electric. Sometimes called the Blood moon or Hunter’s moon, it’s the first full moon after the Harvest Moon. It is called the Blood moon because it has a reddish hue to it. Additionally, the October moon is called a Hunters moon because it is time of easy hunting, even deep into the night, allowing us to prepare for the long winter ahead. While I have a slight aversion to the cold, I love this time of year because there is a discernable shift in energy. The days are cooler and the nights are getting longer. It’s hunkering season (or cashmere season in my life). This Blood moon is particularly special because there is also a total eclipse.

From PCmag.com “A total eclipse is what happens when the moon dives into the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow or umbra. When this happens, the moon doesn’t simply fade into the dark sky, but rather it slowly transitions from bright white into a deep reddish-orange hue.

This reddening is the result of sunlight refracting through the Earth’s atmosphere. Usually the direct light from the sun “washes” out this refracted light, but during a lunar eclipse this refracted red light is the only thing illuminating the lunar surface, thus the moon appears to turn red”.

From a spiritual perspective, some say that eclipses, specifically lunar eclipses bring out negative or dark energies from people or the environment. Around the full moon, people often feel tired, overly emotional (both positive and negative), and crave lighter food. The energies present at a lunar eclipse can be heavy and somewhat oppressive so let’s create a different trajectory.

maracasIn order to overcome these frequencies, I recommend that you do ceremony to INCREASE YOUR LIGHT VIBRATION. Have friends come over for a witchy full moon gathering, keep all the lights on, serve sweet (natural sugars) foods, put on House music and dance the night away. Make sure to use shakers and maracas to ward off darker spirits and help infuse your night with a percussive beat. Some people will feel the full moon energies up to two days before and two days after the event. Use it for your benefit and to supercharge your month.

As I have mentioned previously, full moons are about endings and major changes. The lunar eclipse heightens that even more. Is there a relationship in your life that is no longer serving you? Are you finally fed up with that dead-end job? Now is a great time to summon the courage to release the stuff that is holding you back and open to what you really long to achieve. You have the whole universe on your side supporting you this evening. It’s intense. Meet that energy with an open heart and a willingness to change. The time is now. Look up; the magic is all there for you.

What are your full moon rituals? I would love to hear them and share in the witchy magic.

By the dark of the full eclipsed moon!
